How Running Changed My Life

My story. I (re)learned how to run and found a manageable and healthy exercise routine that would change my life. The key, making sure I always wanted to take another run. By not training too hard, I followed a routine of three runs a week and improved my health in profound and life altering ways.

Death by Distance: Is Vigorous Exercise Bad for Your Heart?

In recent popular media, the study, "Dose of Jogging and Long-Term Mortality: The Copenhagen City Heart Study", has been referenced to claim that too much intense exercise is unhealthy for one's heart. In fact, the study claims there is no difference in expected longevity between a sedentary lifestyle, and someone who exercises vigorously for 4 or more hours a week. This came to my attention in Peter Attiam's podcast, #134 – James O’Keefe, M.D.: Preventing cardiovascular disease and the risk of too much exercise. It had me seriously concerned that my running habit isn't the self-care I seek, but actually self-harm. I had to get to the bottom of this to decide if I needed to make some drastic changes in my routine, not too mention the program I use to coach how to start running.
